NOTE: If leather is severally damaged, please consult an upholster to replace damaged panels. Crack filler may not be used like "bondo" as natural leather grain will be obliterated. A tear will need a mechanical repair underneath for reinforcement.
Crack filler fills cracks, holes, and tears in leather, creating a flexible repair.
TO USE: Recommended to strengthen and prevent further cracking in already cracked leather. Use after leather has been treated with Rejuvenator Oil, and prepped for redye. Sand cracked area to smooth out any hang nails. Apply crack filler directly into crack. Old business cards work well, or small spatula. A few drops of dye may be mixed with small portion of crack filler to add uniform color. Use care not to get crack filler onto grained area. Build up with several coats until a level surface is achieved. Crack filler is self-leveling and will seek and fill in the lowest point within the fibersl. Coats may be re-applied after 20-30 minutes. Allow to dry several hours or overnight. Sand very lightly if necessary with #320 sandpaper. Then continue redying of project.
If leather has small tear, split, or hole and is otherwise is good condition, a mechanical repair will be necessary. Cut a piece of leather from thin scrape edges or a piece of canvas large enough to have sufficient overlap on tear. Work the leather, fuzzy side to fuzzy side, (or canvas) into hole and smooth out edges. Using a toothpick, or small brush, spread a layer of glue or craft adhesive suitable for leather under edges of hole and smooth out to spread glue. Allow patch to dry overnight, then fill remaining scar as directed above. Then proceed with dye application, spray or brush on.
